genuine bad disc or issue with makemkv ?

Apologies if I'm not fully understanding the fine points.

I've ripped quite a few BluRays and DVDs with this player.
Tonight was the first one I couldn't rip.

1. MakeMKV cannot open this disc.
2. The disc will play without issue in VLC on this computer using the same USB reader/writer.
3. I can see Playlists "000000", "000303", "000606" and yes, there is a lot of encryption visible (examine with mkvtoolnix)
4. Here is the only info I've been able to get. Cannot find MKB_v file anywhere.

Is this something to add to makemkv or just a bad disc ?

Does that mean the disc registers in the drive, but MakeMKV can't navigate the disc structure?

What happens if you use MakeMKV to make a (decrypted) backup of the disc?

Out of curiosity, is this a DVD or a blu-ray?

Typically a 'no such device' error means the drive went missing from the computer in the middle of being used. My first guess at an error like that would be either the LG drive got so confused the firmware crashed disconnecting the drive or the drive was bus powered (unlikely if it really is a WH16NS40), ran out of power, and rebooted/disconnected from the computer.

As a side note, the Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide recommends flashing a WH16NS40 to WH16NS60 1.02MK.
