Fatal error when rip starts, have latest keydb and codec installed

#1 Post by AdamGW » Mon Nov 16, 2020 4:20 pm

I am encountering a fatal error in MakeMKV. It happens after just a few seconds as the rip process starts.

I tried opening the disc in VLC which gives me the error "No valid processing key found in AACS config file.". With this information, I have confirmed that I have libaacs installed on my system and I downloaded the latest version of keydb.cfg (2020-11-16) to make sure that was up-to-date. Despite this, I am still unable to open the disc.

Am I out of luck until the key is added to a future version of keydb.cfg?

Versions of MakeMKV after 1.4.1 or so download a new key database for UHD disks as needed. Regular Blurays do not need it.

MakeMKV does not use libaacs, although it can emulate it for other programs, like VLC.

Okay, perhaps I'm confusing it with something else then. When MakeMKV first scans the disc and before I open the titles, I see "Protection: AACS v2" listed under Source.

Some new information: I am able to rip the smaller titles on the disc. The ones that have 1 segment. The main title on the disc (25 segments) is the one that fatal errors. This is happening on multiple discs from the same manufacturer/studio.

The MakeMKV log isn't much help. Everything looks okay and the fatal error hits a few moments after "005014:0000 Saving 1 titles into directory..." is logged. No other info is logged.

AACS v2 is very old, and should not be an issue. The fact that it says it's saving a title means it is able to decrypt the data.

Sudden stoppage would be a read error, most likely.

For logging, are you set for debug logging, or standard logging? Does it respond differently if you chose "Backup", rather than Open->MakeMKV?

I discovered my problem and it deserves a huge facepalm on my part. I was ripping a title that I thought was the main program because I saw "25 Chapters" listed. However, I only just now noticed that title's size is 35 MB rather than GB and is only 2 minutes long. This title is obviously some kind of mechanism to support the "Play All" option on the disk. I was trying to rip it thinking it was a full program.

Sorry for the trouble, but thanks for the help anyways!
