BluRay not recognized by Windows, but MakeMKV

#1 Post by fritzifu » Fri May 15, 2020 1:29 pm

I'm having a weird issue here that I havent been able to find posts about: I have two BluRays here that MakeMKV recognized and ripped without any problems. When I try to play them directly however, Windows recognizes that something is in the drives, but displays them as having nothing on them, 0 out of 0 bytes used space. CyberLink PowerDVD shows the drives as empty, no disc inserted.

I'm running Windows 10, the BluRays are Seasons 1 & 2 of a German documentary series called "Feuer & Flamme" if thats important. And before anyone asks this, the reason why I'm trying to play them even though I already ripped them is that I need to match the .mkv's with the corresponding episode, right now they are mixed up.

I'm really confused right now and any help is greatly appreciated! :)

Windows does not natively understand BD video disks. It SHOULD be able to look at the directory structure, but it won't be able to remove the encryption, like MakeMKV does.

Cyberlink, though, should be able to handle it, unless Windows is blocking its access. Cyberlink, like MakeMKV, has to have relatively low-level access to the drive to exchange encryption keys, which Win10 has been blocking by default since October of 2019.

To find the episode order, please look here https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=20327
All procesed series are matches the above MPLS order, so it is easy to find the episode = mkv file. I make it easier, let MakeMKV put the MPLS number in the file names by specify this into the Output file template "{NAME1}{Title:+DFLT}{_ID-:SN}"
Good Luck :)
