Knowing what errors you're receiving would help make it possible to answer your question.

Thanks for the quick reply woodstock.

Here's the log file from a backup. Maybe it's having troubles reading the disk? It sure looks shiny and new.

Your drive is having trouble reading parts of the disk. And, while it tries REALLY HARD to read it, the operating system decides it is off-line.

Step one is to try cleaning the disk. Yes, even if it looks "pristine", "perfect", and "just came out of the package". See the sticky at the top of this forum about "read this if you are experiencing read errors"; inside, there is a link to a site that explains one of the better ways to clean disks.

Success! I was finally able to read the (23 GB) file using good 'ol Windows Explorer. It just took a .. really .. long .. time.

I tried raising the number of retries in MakeMKV, but it timed out and failed.

I guess I'm that guy  "Nothing else can cause this error - no protection, no software issue - only physical disc or drive damage. Despite such easy explanation, usually the first user reaction is denial - "the disc is pristine clean""

Thanks for the help.
