Ripping Star Wars Blu-Rays

#1 Post by dsk111 » Thu May 04, 2017 10:59 pm

I am ripping all six episodes and Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope MKV files have annoying voice overs describing what is happening in the movie. I have ripped all the camera views and tried unchecking subtitles, etc. and nothing works. All the other episodes that came in the same disk set worked fine.

Any suggestions?

Primary suggestion is to use expert mode and construct a profile (or at least a default selection rule) that pulls ALL audio tracks, not just the "best specification" track. MakeMKV CAN rip every track, but the default rule is to not grab all audio, just the ones most compatible with playback software and hardware.

If you click on the little triangle next to each title in the left menu, it will open up that title to show the tracks associated with it. I think the top track on each SW title is the primary audio. Lower in the list are your commentary tracks.

I do use expert mode. I have tried selecting each of the audio tracks and no mater what I do I get that voice over.

But thanks for replying.

Having just ripped episodes 1-7 and Rogue One in the last 45 days, I have the raw MKV files handy.

I use this as part of my normal profile:

Code: Select all

    <profileSettings
        app_DefaultSelectionString="-sel:all,+sel:(favlang|nolang),-sel:mvcvideo,=100:all,-10:favlang"
    />
For Rogue One, this recovered 5 audio tracks, DTS HD 7.1 channel English, DTS 5.1 English, AC3 Stereo (descriptive for visually impaired), AC3 5.1 French, and AC3 5.1 Spanish.

How many tracks do you have in your MKV files?

You probably have at least the first three, but your player is picking #3 instead of #1. VLC will show you the tracks in the Information screen on codecs.
