Purchased Insurgent Redbox Blu-Ray

Post by tvguydave »

Hey All,

I grabbed Insurgent out of the Redbox and loved it so much, I've purchased it. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to back it up with all of these extra playlist thingys. I was just wondering if anyone else was in my perfectly legal predicament and had resolved this issue.

Thanks!

BD or DVD, the methods you'll find by searching for "bluray playlist obfuscation" should work. It's easier with DVDs, because you don't need special software to play them.

I THINK it might be 00286 but my wife bought it and I have not seen the movie yet to be able to verify.

Just tried 00286. Can confirm that it is NOT the correct one. A few scenes out of order in the first 10 minutes.

Insurgent (2015) - Redbox rental / purchase (USA)

Playlist: 00721.mpls
Segment Map: 518, 519, 511, 503, 509, 516, 513, 501, 520, 517, 508, 515, 514, 506, 502, 505, 504, 510, 512, 507

I verified each segment order visually while watching the movie. Not hard to do. This disc doesn't have any duplicate, blended, or partial segments. Pretty easy to piece them together. Only the "500" range of segments are used. Everything else is warnings, previews, etc...

I have confirmed atleast for my disc (USA-English) that the 0721.mpls was correct. I have also devised a way, based in part of information discovered elsewhere, that will allow us to find the exact MPLS very quickly and accurately. I am outlining the procedure below.

*Requirements*
1. Windows PC
2. Process Explorer * Google it! * (Used to monitor which MPLS files are being acccessed by the system at a given time)
3. PowerDVD 14 (or later?)
4. File comparison tool (I wrote one specifically for the MPLS issue because PowerDVD tries to hide the MPLS that it uses in a cache folder under a different MPLS name)

Load Process Explorer and create a single filter (get rid of any existing filters) specifying: 'Path', 'Contains', 'MPLS', 'Include'

Use PowerDVD to play the movie from the disc and, once the actual movie starts, you will get the cached/renamed MPLS file PowerDVD shown in Process Explorer. It will be something like this .... C:\Users\Chad\AppData\Local\Cyberlink\PowerDVD14\Caches\PowerDVD14Cache\LocalStorage\2.0\BUDA\1b7ac4686ea688d84929a19ea1778d5c29cdb12c\7fff4c47\80000000000000040150000000000002\00286.mpls

Using the file compare tool, past the cache file name in and then tell it where the real Blu Ray BDMV\PLAYLIST folder is located and it will find the REAL one that matches! :)

See this Youtube video for where got most of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AlhBmIbReao
If there is an interest in my MPLS compare/search tool I may create a share link for it.

chadbh74,

I completed your procedure and came back with relatively the same result... \80000000000000040150000000000002\00286.mpls

How did you know it was not the 00286.mpls file that the result listed... and that it was actually the 0721.mpls file? I know you said you used a tool to compare... but what made you realize you were getting an incorrect outcome? Also, you don't mention needing a tool in your video.

And since I don't have the compare tool - is there a manual why to compare and find the true .mpls file?

Three videos I created show how to overcome this protection. Rotty and I designed a tool to automate this whole process with 2 clicks. Google rotty dog mpls finder and read my screen pass thread. I cannot post links on other people's forums. You guys are old enough to figure this out. If any new screen pass protections come out I'll will expose them and share them. Finding the correct mpls file is a must for tools like this! By the way I use this same name on all msg boards. Google it and it will take you to top screen pass threads. Later

I got a version of the disc from my library USA-East and didn't see some of the segment map numbers on mine. I found a thread on the AVS forums from Ken F. and it looks like on my disc is was

Here's his post:

"I picked up the retail version of Insurgent today. Passkey says the main playlist is 00407.mpls, and it also identified it having Cinavia protection. I'll rip it and verify the chapters later tonight if I have time."

Ken F: It looks like 00407 is the correct playlist for the retail version of Insurgent. I checked the first scene of each chapter and it matches what is on the disc.

So if you're like me and didn't see those segment map numbers I think your winner is 407.

The issue I had with Insurgent was scenes being out of place. After looking on here, I have confirmed that 00721 is correct with no issues.
