When MakeMKV starts, it reads all the profile files in the program directory, to decide what is available in the Profile selection box. The file 'C:\Program Files (x86)\MakeMKV/aac-stereo.mmcp.xml' is either not syntactically correct, or is damaged in some way. So, it won't be available when you want to change away from the default profile.

The profile in question is one of the "standard" profiles that ships with MakeMKV. Installing the new version should have overwritten it, in which case the error will go away from the logs.

Ok, thank you very much for the explanation.

One more question: I understand that ripping to makemkv should be a lossless process with respect to video and audio quality; however, I think my makemkv rips seem less sharp and contain more artifacts than when watching blu-rays on my tv.

Is this simply the result of my playback software not being good enough? What should I be playing my rips with besides vlc and gom?

The actual image and audio data is copied directly from the tracks on the disk into the MKV container, after decrypting them. If you watch the BD and the resultant MKV file using the same software, the results should be identical. But, change the viewing parameters (i.e., different programs, different resolution), and the results can appear differently. BD video is 1080p; if the display isn't, there is interpretation going on somewhere to make it fit.
