Transformers (2007) blu ray - Fatal error occurred, program will now exit.

Post by keeper221 »

The error in the screenshot has happened multiple times. The process begins as normal, then stops when the file gets between 5 and 7 GB.
Either the disk reader will stop spinning while the remaining time estimate increases, or the error alert from the screenshot pops up, requiring the application to close.

Other blu rays complete using the same settings without issue.

It seems like your drive doesn't like that disc. Have you tried gently cleaning the disc?

I have tried cleaning the disc, with no effect.
Is that error associated with a bad disc?

In non-technical terms, that error is saying that the operating system is complaining that it sent a command to the optical drive, waited for a period of time for the optical drive to respond, and the OS got tired of waiting.

Based on your snippets of log, it looks like you have an LG WH16NS60. I have one of these drives as well and like a lot of LG drives, it famously can behave badly in the presence of less-than-perfect discs. Occasionally, mine will get so confused it won't work at all (it won't even eject the disc) until the drive is power cycled. When mine gets into this state, there's a whole range of errors that can occur. The specific error doesn't really matter since the net effect is the same; the drive is stuck or otherwise confused by a particular disc.

If you have a different drive you can try, you might get a different result. In my experience, the same disc in a different drive, often (though not always) will produce a different result. Since I've added a couple of Pioneer drives to my fleet of drives, I don't even bother to clean a disc until I've tried it in a few different drives. Often one of my drives (usually a Pioneer) will read a problematic disc. The Pioneer drives are expensive and hard to get these days, but they do seem to work better than either my LG or ASUS drive. No drive is perfect though.
