Hardware timeout... that's one that doesn't pop up every day. But it does indicate an issue between your operating system and the drive itself - MakeMKV makes a request, and the operating system doesn't get an answer back before it times out waiting for the response.

Since the Asus is an internal SATA drive, it should always have enough power to run at full speed, so we'll push that possibility aside for now.

Does the error JUST occur on this disk, or on others? If it is just this disk, I'd suggest cleaning the disk as a first step. With a damp, soft cloth, wipe down the disk to make sure there are no fingerprints or chemical coatings on the disk.

I'm having this same issue but nit with just one blu ray. I was trying this last night with the Home blu ray and the same thing happened to me. Any ideas?

Sudden occurrences are often (but not always) a "glitch" telling the operating system that the drive is off-line, and the OS doesn't check after that. Restarting the operating system will usually clear those problems up.

If the glitch is at the motherboard level, though, it won't clear until the system gets a RESET signal, or has power removed. Rebooting the operating system doesn't do either of those things, so the problem can persist until the next time the machine is powered down.

Appreciate the help Woodstock. I did shut down and restart a couple times. I also tried several other Blue ray discs from my library which open perfectly.

These are from Netflix if that makes a difference. I just received a replacement disc for the one in the initial post and it's doing the same thing. I also received How to Train Your Dragon and it's doing it also. I took a close look at these two discs and I just noticed that they both have nearly identical 1/4 inch cracks starting on the outer edge. I wonder if the post office or Netflix may have a mechanical issue causing fractures. I'll request another of each and see what happens.

About 10% of the disks I received when I had a Netflix subscription were cracked. Some so bad that there were shards in the envelop. I got one that the only thing holding the disk together was the printing on the disk.

The Post Office has specialized equipment that can crush a 1" thick book vertically... DVDs and BDs have NO chance.

I think they are up to about 50% now. About to terminate. It also crossed my mind that this was a way they could foil rippers. Most of these did work in a standard blue ray player but not in the computer. All the cracks I've seen are virtually identical. 1/4" or so moon shaped crack on the outer edge.
