Following error occured during copy of Skyfall BD:

I would venture to guess that MEDIUM ERROR indicates an issue with the disc.

Was the rip successful?

The rip was not successful. No files are created.

Other software e.g. anydvd HD or PAVtube also not able to read the disk.

Especially anydvd HD performed an 'endless' error correction.

47% - 6 hours - aborted by my side.

The disk is brand new. No physical errors - scratches et cetera -

My bluray player plays it with no problems from start to end.

Is this some kind of a new copy protection measure maybe ?

I had no problems ripping Skyfall.

Just because you can not see an issue with the disc does not mean it's not defective. I would suggest you return it to the place of purchase for replacement.

Playback is no indicator or the quality of the disc, ripping is.

I had the same issue with a brand new Blu-ray disc of Skyfall. It was pristine with no visible defects and played fine on my Blu-ray player but would not RIP using my burner on a Win7 desktop PC with the most recent version of MakeMKV.

So I took the disc back to Target for a replacement and had the same problem.

I then tried the 2nd disc on my laptop (Mac) with the same burner and had errors again. So I began to think it was the burner which was the only variable that hadn't changed.

I have two Blu-ray writers of the same model (one at home and one at the office)...a USB Samsung portable BD Writer SE-506. So I brought the 2nd unit home and tried again with absolutely no errors on the Mac (didn't try the Win7 PC but I assume it would have worked there as well).

Upon further investigation, the only difference in the two burners was that the one that did NOT work had a more recent firmware installed (go figure).

To add another twist, the burner at the office was giving me errors on a different movie about a month ago but the one at home worked fine. So it is almost like a "hit and miss" match with certain discs and drives when used together.

Or I can be completely wrong and it is all dependent on the temperature and air pressure readings outside.

If you have access to a friend or neighbor's Blu-ray burner, I would suggest try another burner before wasting time returning a disc at the store.

I've been using LG BD drives and have never had any problem reading Blu-ray disks, (that weren't defective) even when others are having a devil of a time with the same disc.

I've ripped over 500 blu-ray movies, (which I own) and highly recommend LG BD drives!

I had issues too with A-Team and it was suggested that it was hardware, which I guess it is, but just find it odd that every other Blu-ray has ripped fine...

If there is an error on the disk, it really doesn't matter what drive or software version you're using.

Your error falls into the "possibly a USB-powered external drive being spun faster than it can get power to do" category, because the drive goes off-line for a bit after the first read error, then comes back, then goes off-line.

I'd suggest starting with cleaning the disk, in case it's just a fingerprint that is causing all the consternation. And if it IS a USB-powered drive, make sure you have it plugged into a fully-powered port, not just a regular hub.
