Help Error "Can't read AACS VID from disc - most likely current AACS host certificate is revoked by your drive"

Post by Karango »

Hi, recently tried to rip some BluRay discs but each time, I get the error "Can't read AACS VID from disc - most likely current AACS host certificate is revoked by your drive". However my drive (ASUS SBW-06D5H-U) has LibreDrive enabled so I don't understand why this is happening? Does anyone know how to fix this?

Here's my drive specs from MakeMKV :

I'd say at some point, Libredrive probably wasn't fully activated and the certificate was revoked. Power cycle the drive (and possibly the PC) before trying again.

What AACS revision are the discs you are trying to rip? If they are AACS v82, MakeMKV does not natively suport it and should create a dump file for you to email in. You can also try downloading the public KeyDB and extracting it to the MakeMKV data directory (where the dumps go). As long as LibreDrive is enabled you should not get that error.
Cheers :D

Thanks for the reply.
I have already tried power cycling the drive and the PC. I also tried ripping discs on another computer but it didn't work.
Regarding the AACS version I tried several Blu-rays protected with AACS v81, v68, v20, and even v2. Since it happens with every disc regardless of the AACS version, it doesn't seem to be limited to only recent releases..

Yeah, but has it seen an AACS v82 disc? What's the highest version the drive has seen according to MakeMKV? v82 would revoke the certificate meaning no discs will work unless libredrive is enabled and active.

So, if libredrive is enabled, you should not get that error. Very strange indeed.

According to MakeMKV, the highest AACS version is 68, but I don't remember if I ever tried to play or rip a disc with AACS v82. If that were the case, could that explain AACS revocation?

As soon as you insert a disc with a higher AACS version than what the drive has previously seen, the drive will be updated with this newer AACS version and revoke certain certificates etc that are included in that newer AACS version. You don't even have to open any software application. It happens as soon as the disc is initialised by the OS.

But again, if libredrive is enabled, it becomes irrelevant with regards to ripping with MakeMKV.

Please do the following:

1. Insert a blu-ray disc.
2. Wait for the OS to initialise it (when you can see the disc in explorer)
3. Open the MakeMKV application.
4. Copy and paste all of the text from the right side of MakeMKV.
5. Start a disc backup by clicking the folder button (2nd from left) in the top menu.
6. In the popup window, check the decrypt box and choose a location for the backup.
7. Start the backup and if you get any errors, copy and paste all of the log window text.
Cheers :D
