Software to Create BD-Video

Post by filmteknik »

I don’t know if this is the best place to ask but I’m looking for software - freeware if possible - burn a BD playable on an ordinary player. Source would be some .m2ts files.

I installed Burnaware Free but I didn’t see an option for BD creation so I selected “BDMV” from the menu. This leads to a “add files” menu.

It’s been a good many years since I made homemade DVDs with Nero but I remember one didn’t just add files; one needed to make a menu of some sort. This looked like the way to make a data disk.

I plowed ahead anyway just to see and not surprisingly created a coaster.

Even if what I made was a data BD, it was unreadable even on the drive that made it.

What is recommended to make video BDs? Or do I author on one program and burn on another? TIA

I'm pretty sure Nero still exists for Windows and Roxio Toast for MacOS. I think both allow you to author & burn a DVD or Blu-ray disc.

If you're going to burn a blu-ray that's more than 25GB, you'll be looking at a dual layer disc. They're sorta expensive and not all brands of burners do a good job of dealing with the layer break. Pioneers do okay, most other brands don't.

Which brings us around to the real question. Are you sure you want to be burning discs? There are cheaper ways to store data and if you just want to watch a movie putting a file on a USB stick or on one's phone usually does the trick.
