King of Queens The Complete Series (Mill Creek)

Post by kevinadams05 »

Has anyone ripped King of Queens The Complete Series (Mill Creek release) yet? I am trying to understand which episode is which, and all my normal techniques are failing me.

I normally try to compare the episode duration to dvdcompare.net, but the durations don't seem to match. The DiscDB lists every episode as 25 mins so that doesn't help either. I also don't see a playlist or play all option that I can use for reference.

Is there anything else I can try?

I haven't ripped that series.

However, if you look at the credits in every episode you can probably reach a high degree of certainly by looking at the director and writers for each episode.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_King_of_Queens_episodes#Season_1_(1998–99)

If you make a decrypted backup of the disc you can play an episode's .m2ts file right out of the backup.

Thanks for the director and writer tip! I hadn't thought of that.

I did find this review online which lists the duration of each episode:
https://www.spookcentral.tk/tcp/2024/12 ... ray-review

That is helping, except on some discs there are multiple episodes with the same duration. In those cases, I have been going one by one to try to identify them based on the screen cap posted on TVDB. Using writer/director will probably be easier.

I'm building out an Excel sheet that maps each track to it's corresponding episode. I will post that when I am done, just in case it helps anyone in the future.

Hopefully your spreadsheet is mapping the segment map -> episode title.

It's a pretty detailed spreadsheet. I am mapping things this way:

Episode Name: Bun Dummy
Episode Number: S04E21
Disc Number (As appears on the physical disc): Season 4 Disc 2
File length: 21:18
MPLS file name: 00006.mpls
MakeMKV file name: title_t06
Plex Friendly File Name: The King of Queens S04E21

The MPLS file name will be useful but the MakeMKV file name generally won't be.

MakeMKV appends the "_t06" part, for example, to help ensure that every produced .mkv file ends up with a unique name. But it depends on how many titles MakeMKV sees to begin with.

By default, the minimum title length is 120 seconds (the Video tab of MakeMKV's preferences). Every title that is less than 120 seconds is ignored. If this setting is changed, it will increase or decrease the number of titles that MakeMKV sees. This implies that the title with _t06 appended when the minimum title length is 120 might end up with something different appended to it when the minimum title length is different.

The MPLS file name, however, will be consistent regardless of any settings like minimum title length. The segment map will also be consistent.

I should also mention, I often use the resources at DVDCompare.net when I'm ripping things.
https://dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=39353
In this case, it looks like they do not have data for the Mill Creek Entertainment version of that show on blu-ray.

In addition to posting your data here, it could be helpful to the wider community if you figured out to how post your data with them so it could be added to their listings.

Hi, I found your thread while searching for a cross reference between titles and episode listings for this series.

By chance did you ever complete your spreadsheet? I'd be very grateful if you wouldn't mind sharing it!

Thank you!
