Wait a few days. Seems that new AACS v82 has gone out. My blu ray copy of The Strangers Chapter 2 is also v82. Did you submit a dump to svq@makemkv.com?

It usually takes a few days, and since it seems v82 is shipping with discs that went public on the 9thI would say by Friday maybe Saturday the disc should be added and be able to rip. At this moment I suggest making a full disc dump to hdd so that way when the disc is in the system you will be able to do it faster then the disc drive would allow.

Playing the waiting game myself! Checked again today and still can't open it. Took the above advice and backed up the whole disc so I don't keep throwing it in and checking. Hopefully it'll get sorted soon!

You should email the dump to svq@makemkv.com so a key can be created for MakeMKV's built in hashed key mechanism. A few days after emailing the dump, try the disc again and if a key is available, MakeMKV will download it automatically in the background.

There is a separate second decryption mechanism that MakeMKV supports, the public KeyDB. To contribute to the public KeyDB, use the template and follow the instructions in the first post in the Public KeyDB Disc Submissions thread. Instructions for downloading the keyDB and using with MakeMKV are also in that thread.

I've seen a few posts (two?) about people submitting a dump for this movie already - does it benefit for me to submit another? Also - I have a Pioneer drive and I thought that there was a problem with the dumps for Pioneer drives, or am I misinformed on that front?

Happy to submit my dump - just didn't want to add useless noise if there's no benefit for it.

There are two mechanisms MakeMKV can use to decrypt a disc. The built-in mechanism is referred to hashed keys. When MakeMKV encounters a disc it doesn't have a key for, it tries to download the latest keys from a server. If there isn't a key available, a dump file is produced. Users email that dump file to the aforementioned email address and eventually a hashed key is made available. If duplicate dumps are submitted via email, it is no big deal.

A single title, in this case Dogma, might have some discs encrypted with one key while other discs might be encrypted with a different key. Two discs are encrypted with the same key if the name of the dump file produced for both discs is exactly the same. If the 4-digit hash at the end is different then the two discs need different keys.

The other decryption mechanism that MakeMKV can use is called the public keyDB. This is not built into MakeMKV but it is a key mechanism that MakeMKV can use if you download the keyDB and put it into the right location for MakeMKV to find. To submit a key to the public keyDB, follow the instructions in the first post of the public keyDB disc submission thread. In that case, submitting a key that's already in the keyDB just ends up wasting volunteer's time. The submission template asks if you've updated your keyDB less than 15 minutes prior to submitting a key for it. This is to minimize duplicate submissions.

The dump files MakeMKV makes from discs in Pioneer drives are not useful for the public keyDB, generally speaking. Dumps made from non-Pioneer drives are fine. The built in hashed key mechanism can use any dump that MakeMKV creates regardless of the brand of optical drive.

If neither MakeMKV's built-in hashed key mechanism nor the public keyDB have a key for a particular disc, it is preferable to both email the dump to MakeMKV and submit it to the public keyDB (assuming you don't have a Pioneer drive).

Thank you so much! This was a very helpful (and generous) explanation. Very new to the community so this is the first time I've encountered this and it's helpful to know how to handle it moving forward. I've got a Pioneer drive so I can't be of help with the public keydb, but I'll send over my dump file to the official makemkv email to help with the process. Thanks for your guidance!
