Hey all!
I am trying to rip the new Arrow Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trilogy, but keep getting the "This disc uses newer version of AACS protection" error.
I did some reading and installed the KeyDBHelper... but it kept closing after the "Downloading FindVUK" step. So I found and installed FindVUK myself, then cancelled that op when I opened KEYDBHelper the next time. I then clicked synchronize and it says the sync was complete.
But when I try the TMNT disc in KEYDBHelper, it routinely crashes when I try to vaildate the disc or do anything. I can sometimes get the info for the disc up before it crashes (I have attached a screenshot of what it says).
I am a complete novice at all of this. Can anyone help me figure out how to rip these?
Thanks!
James

At the moment, MakeMKV does not natively support AACS v82 blu-rays. You should email those dumps to svq@makemkv.com so a key can be created for MakeMKV's built in hashed key mechanism. A few days after emailing the dump, try the disc again and if a key is available, MakeMKV will download it automatically in the background.
There is a separate second decryption mechanism that MakeMKV supports, the public KeyDB. To contribute to the public KeyDB, use the template and follow the instructions in the first post in the Public KeyDB Disc Submissions thread.

If you want to try the public keyDB, download it and unzip it. The link is in the first post of the Public KeyDB Disc Submission thread.
Then put that file in MakeMKV's data directory. The IO tab in MakeMKV's preferences lists where that is on your system. Restart MakeMKV and try to rip your disc. If the keyDB or MakeMKV's built in hashed keys have a key for your disc, then MakeMKV will be able to decrypt it.
If they don't, email the dump (the .tgz file) to svq@makemkv.com so a hashed key can be created. Once it is created, MakeMKV will download it automatically when needed. You can also follow the template in the first post in the KeyDB thread and submit your dumps for the keyDB as well.
The helper and FindVUK are not strictly required to use the keyDB with MakeMKV. They do, however, make it easier to update the keyDB (MakeMKV does not update the keyDB; you have to do it manually or via the helper or something similar) and/or validate your discs yourself.

I get some debug codes and then a bunch of illegal key exchange and medium read errors. Really common with Arrow titles I find. Oddly enough. I was able to rip Turtles 3 no problem, and am stuck on the first two.

This is still an issue. I can't rip any of the discs.

This seems to be for the BluRays? Not the 4k?
I recently ripped a Joe Bob's Last Drive In that gave me some kind of message about newer AACS protection, but I did a backup instead of straight rip, and then ripped the backups and it worked fine. Try that?
My issue with Turtles is the 4k. My drive stumbles on Arrow Video 4k discs often enough

I have the Regular Blu-Rays, but I believe people are also having issues with the 4k discs too.Friggingrease wrote: ↑Tue Dec 16, 2025 10:35 pmThis seems to be for the BluRays? Not the 4k?

Re: Arrow Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trilogy set "This disc uses newer version of AACS protection"
MakeMKV generated Key dumps for the first two movies that I couldn't rip. This doesn't always happen for me when a UHD fails, but I submitted them last night, and the 2nd disc is now backing up, after a soft wipe with the cloth for my glasses. It's always Arrow Video that gives me these issues.
Edit: The first one gave me some issues again, but I cleaned it with some hot breath and a glasses cloth and it is currently backing up. I'm going to keep a drive with problematic back ups I think
