Holiday Inn BD Error... Please Help!

Tried two or three times with the same result...


MakeMKV v1.10.2 win(x64-release) started
The new version 1.10.3 is available for download at /download/
Using direct disc access mode

I just downloaded v1.10.3 and I'm trying yet again... update coming in approx. 15 mins.

The errors are consistent with the drive resetting when it runs out of power. Faster speeds mean more power drawn, and USB power is always limited. When this happens, you can't be sure where in the rip that the drive will get going fast enough to cause the problem; That's why the two attempts failed at different locations.

If it is a USB-powered drive, make sure it is plugged into a fully-powered USB port. If it is not plugged into the computer directly, the hub it is plugged into should have a separate power supply.

Weird, I've never had any problems before and I've been ripping multiple discs daily for the past many months...

I'm using a Pioneer BDR-XU03, which is indeed an external drive and powered by USB. I suppose I can try plugging into another port or hub on my laptop, but I don't understand why I would only be experiencing this issue with one disc. I literally just finished ripping about a half dozen other DVDs and Blu-Rays prior to this one.

Do you have any tips on what I can do to generate more power to the USB hub on my laptop? I'm using a Samsung notebook, if that makes a difference.

Okay, so I've downloaded the newest version of MakeMKV and tried the operation again. This time I made certain that the USB cable was properly connected at both. Once again, it gave me an error and it seems as though it keeps failing at approx. the same point in the ripping process; approx. 1/4 of the way in...

I'm giving it one last go with the player plugged into a different hub, on the opposite side of my notebook. Let's see if this makes any difference...

Thanks for the links. I did come across the first one via Google search before starting this thread. Unfortunately it doesn't offer much in the way of a solution or workaround. This is strange and really frustrating. The disc appears to be in perfect condition; it's relatively brand new, clean and free from any surface wear. It plays back flawlessly, which I understand is an entirely different function than MakeMKV, but nonetheless, it certainly doesn't appear to be damaged in terms of aesthetics or playback.

I'm not sure if this is of any use to anyone, but I've uploaded a very boring video to Youtube of my latest attempt at ripping the disc. The errors begin to pop up around the 02:21 time code: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1lTN6e ... e=youtu.be

I realized after uploading from my phone that quality is almost unwatchable, surely making it wholly useless. I'll offer it up anyhow.

I tried ripping a separate title from the same disc since the film comes in both original b&w (which I was trying to extract to MKV) and a colorized version. The color title almost made it but failed about 75% into the operation, whereas the b&w title only makes it to about 25% on each attempt.

Again, the disc appears to be like new and playback is flawless.

I leave town next week and I was really hoping to tackle this one before the holidays... I suppose I can try to rent the disc from 3D-Bluray store online, but I don't want to waste the time or money if this is going to happen again. What are the chances that this is an error with the disc itself and how can I be certain?

Okay this is really weird... all of a sudden I'm getting a CyberLink message that PowerDVD cannot playback the protected content (error=0122). It's telling me to ensure that my graphics card meets min. requirement and/or not to use dual monitors, which I'm not. I don't understand what's going on but this is after several attempts at ripping with MakeMKV. The disc played back fluently beforehand. I have a registered version of AnyDVD HD as well, if that makes any difference. This is so stupid. It's a standard R1 BD and relatively new at that.

On the potential power issue: Laptops often are low on the USB power spec when running on battery. Did you have it on a charger when you ran the test with the drive plugged into the laptop's USB port?

It's 100% not the USB power because I was able to rip ten other films (BD/DVD) immediately afterward. My notebook is always plugged in and never running on battery power. I'll assume it's just the disc, although that's suspect too since it seemed to be perfectly fine. I've just rented this same disc online and I'm crossing my fingers that it arrives before I leave town on 12/22. Hopefully it works this time around... I'll post an update when it arrives.
