Ex Machina - Hash check failed

Post by exmachina »

Getting lots of hash check failed errors with this disc. Read all the posts that said my drive was going bad... so I bought a new drive. Same errors :?

Code: Select all

MakeMKV v1.9.5 win(x64-release) started
Backing up disc into folder "E:/Video/EX_MACHINA"
Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.
Hash check failed for file /BDMV/STREAM/00280.m2ts at offset 23390208, file is corrupt.
Hash check for /BDMV/STREAM/00280.m2ts : 0.06% corrupt, 99.91% correct, 99.98% checked.
Hash check failed for file /BDMV/STREAM/00292.m2ts at offset 238086144, file is corrupt.
Hash check failed for file /BDMV/STREAM/00292.m2ts at offset 238282752, file is corrupt.
Hash check for /BDMV/STREAM/00292.m2ts : 0.16% corrupt, 99.83% correct, 99.99% checked.
Hash check failed for file /BDMV/STREAM/00009.m2ts at offset 74508288, file is corrupt.

I would be suspicious of the disk before the drive. If a drive is failing, it would start having similar errors on multiple disks; the same errors showing up for ONE disk and not others usually implies the disk is damaged.

Please turn on debug logging, which should show more information. You might also try the "Open/save to MKV" method, to see what errors appear.

I tested out AnyDVD, which also failed. Then I tried MakeMKV again so I could get the debug logs... and it worked. Probably something weird with my setup.

Anyone able to help interpret this? I understand that the Scsi Error lines are probably dirty disk, but the disc looks fine to the naked eye. I'm more curious about the debug codes. In the end, this encode fails no matter how I try it in MakeMKV.

Using direct disc access mode

Starman, debug messages result from MakeMKV trying different things to work around invalid data being received. MakeMKV tries to fix it up; if it can, it moves on. If it can't, it will try different things until it either runs out of things to try or gets a valid error response from the drive. Each thing that is tried is documented with a debug code, so that Mike can analyze what is going on.

Mike has said that some drives are returning "mostly correct" data when they hit some types of read errors, but "mostly correct" is still wrong. Your log shows read errors while accessing the directory information, and later when it tries to read the data track. It is POSSIBLE that increasing the retry count could help (Preferences->IO menu), but I would not hold out a lot of hope for that.
