MakeMKV has stopped being able to open Blu-Ray discs

I gave Total Recall another try and it worked. The latest version of MakeMKV did the trick.

unlikely
they could revoke the key but that would not be re-writing the firmware in your drive

Of course they do. The drive is required to store the CRL in non-volatile memory. Whether it is a separate eeprom chip or a partition in main flash memory is implementation dependent. It's all described in the publicly available AACS specification.
