MakeMKV fails to open new Blu-ray disc

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a brand-new Blu-ray disc (no scratches), but when I try to rip it with MakeMKV, it shows “failed to open disc” after about 10–15 seconds. The same drive works perfectly fine with my other Blu-ray discs.

Has anyone experienced this issue with newer releases? Do I need to update my drive firmware or install a newer version of MakeMKV to fix it? Any advice would be appreciated.

You do not always see what keeps disks from ripping. I'm ripping dozens of disks per day right now, re-ripping my collection, and occasionally hit a disk that cannot be read. I clean it (currently using lens cleaning wipes from Walmart, but other plastic-safe cleaners can work), then put it back in the drive and it rips.

There are other threads here that include pictures of how disks "look perfect", then show the difference when they're cleaned. Any disk that has sat in its case for 6 months can pick up a haze that will make them unreadable.
