Hello ,
with the help of this forum i have flashed a Bluray Drive from Amazon to UHD drive (libredrive).
so far , so good;
it became a bit loud, but that is acceptable;
today i have entered a Bluray ReWritable, but it seems drive is not capable of reading it;
had all sorts of problems under Linux (it would not even eject the BD-RE) and under Windows there is also error.
could this be related to the Flashing process or is the rather Drive rather bad?
thanks.
(flashed WH16NS60) won't read BD-RE?
Re: (flashed WH16NS60) won't read BD-RE?
the media is Maxell ReWritable BD-RE (25GB Single Layer , speed 1x-2x), brandnew.
(under windows) IT WOULD take a very long time (minutes) to eject disc, which is certainly not normal behaviour.
the drive originally is probably a WH16NS55,
thanks.

If brand new there's nothing to read from this disc with Makemkv. Use Imgburn to format it and copy some stuff to it. Then check if you can read it in Windows Explorer.

Why are you trying to use MakeMKV with a blank writable disc?kapqa wrote: ↑Mon Apr 07, 2025 8:37 amHello ,

Re: (flashed WH16NS60) won't read BD-RE?
why would i need to format BD-RE if its brandnew?
i download imgburn (not available for linux) but it would not allow for burning ISO (Device not ready - medium not present > although it is inserted and state: found: 1 BD-RE XL)
maybe it is just incompatible BD-RE;
can you help me to flash back to original firmware to see if this resolved?
thanks.

Re: (flashed WH16NS60) won't read BD-RE?
for reference post here info obtained via linux terminal,
maybe there are some error , though, because it states "DVD-RW DVD+RW wrtingin not supported"?
also linux program states "drive is empty" although BD-RE is clearly inserted.

Re: (flashed WH16NS60) won't read BD-RE?
ok, so i was able to write data to BD-RE on a mac using another drive , which is a NS40 converted to NS60 (which consider the better drive, since it is much more silent).
to write to disc, had to use "DVD" structure, the other 3 would fail on program "burn" under macos.
so most probably got duped by amazon warehouse and buought a defective NS55; but since i could read 4K UHD disc , thought it is just fine; but it seems it cannot handle other media equally well;
when i now enter the written-to BD-RE into the NS55>NS60 the windows would complain "enter a disc"

All LG / ASUS drives tend to die early.
