Criterion Blu-ray's

Post by jakebor »

I have a rather large Criterion Blu-ray collection and wanted to rip them for a jellyfin account. I'm using make MKV through a ProxMox container on a Lenovo tiny thinkstation using a BU40N in an OWM enclosure. It was a bit of trial and error but I successfully passed through the drive and I was off ripping!

using my set up I was ripping everything from big budget UHD releases to cheap dollar store dvds. other than a few errors I'm chalking up to "bad luck" I'm fairly happy with the setup.

That is until I got to my Criterion Collection Blurays. I get a various errors (mainly hash errors) than it freezes up. I have to restart the LXC every time this happens
so far the blurays I haven't been able to rip no matter how many times I try are:
La Poison
The Tin Drum
Eraserhead
Blackmoon
The Grand Budapest Hotel

After retrying about 6 times The Executioner finally ripped. Maybe persistence is really the answer?

Ive ripped about 60 disks with the above set up no problem!
Is anyone else having problems specifically with the Criterion Blurays?
Any help would be appreciated!

Not me. I've ripped a couple dozen or so Criterion Blu-Ray disks without any problems or other unusual behavior, but I wasn't using a BU40N or ripping any of the titles you mentioned.

I have had problems with Criterion disks ripping:

The Tin Drum
Wild Strawberries
Weekend (JLG)
World on a wire
Brazil
Fat girl
etc,

But I was able to rip Eraserhead. Most likely you have bad discs. I had to repurchase the above, unfortunately, since the time to exchange them had long past.
