Lionsgate Blu-Ray ripping for a long time

Post by bansly »

Hello, I have recently begun ripping my movie collection and just got to my John wick movies (lionsgate). I started ripping the movie (using the CLI if it matters) and it ran for around 10 hours (an estimate). Is this normal? I assume this has something to do with the playlist obfuscation and such.

Even though the rip was still running, I had a file which included 'MainFeature' in the name, which is, as I understand it, MakeMKV's best guess at the correct playist right? Once I have that 'MainFeature' file would I be good to stop the rip?

Lionsgate disks have hundreds of fake titles, You have to select the correct title for the particular disk you have (it varies with when/where you got it).

I see, is using MakeMKV to detect the true title infeasible for Lionsgate movies? If not how can I find the correct title?

MakeMKV will make an attempt to find the correct stream, but it isn't guaranteed. Usually, the wrong tracks have lengths that are wildly different from the stated feature length, though, so it's easy enough to narrow things down, even when the list isn't sorted so well.

There are a number of things people have tried; such as Marty's GetMPLS - An Application to help find the correct playlist for BD / UHD, or even my attempt to explain it What is the correct play list [insert title here]?.

When they were going at hot-and-heavy (it happens somewhat less now), there were threads of messages for each of the John Wick movies (among many) that listed which playlist for each version.
