Crash (blue screen of death) as rip starts

Post by bnSvn »

Blue Ray disk loads all titles showing operation successfully completed, press Make MKV button and computer crashes with blue screen of death. It works fine with a DVD this just happens on a blue-ray disc. Tried several times and happens every time consistently.

Appreciate the help with direction on a fix. Thanks

I'm not sure any of that information helps since none of it is directly related to the BSOD. One part talks about makemkv shutting down (though unclear if it's an intended or crashed shutdown), and the other is about the DellWAL service having a problem.

DellWAL is probably something that Dell installs on their computers, though I have no idea what value it provides. Normally when a service or application crashes it doesn't BSOD a system. It is possible for a service to be installed in a way such that it declares itself so critical to the system that if it crashes it BSODs Windows. If Dell is using this option then I can't imagine why. Normally it's only truly critical services (e.g., the part that handles logging on to the OS) to use this.

Normally I'd suggest uninstalling the Dell crapware, but it's been over a decade since I bought a Dell computer and I have no idea whether they've done something so atypical to the computer that some of the stuff actually needs to be installed for things to work properly.

I wonder if the 'WAL' part of DellWAL stands for Walk Away Lock?
