AV sync issues timing sync issues..[SOLVED with MKVToolNix]

Post by scjet »

MakeMKV v1.9.7 (Registered) (presently using Linux-x64, although below errors also happened on Windows)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
File -> Open DVD Files Manually:
Error:
Calculated BUP offset for VTS #1 does not match one in IFO header.
Manual String parse error : string is empty
Failed to open disc
File -> Open Files:
Operation successfully completed (with Errors)
VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_4.VOB' is corrupt or invalid at offset 3536570368, attempting to work around
AV synchronization issues were found in file '...test.mkv' (title #1)
AV sync issue in stream 0 at 1:35:12.406 : video frame timecode differs by -233.566ms
AV sync issue in stream 0 at 1:35:12.640 : video frame timecode differs by -367.033ms
AV sync issue in stream 0 at 1:35:12.673 : video stream has 2 frames with invalid timecodes
1 title saved
------------------------------------------------
The above "DVD" exemplary errors are not indicicative of "all" AV sync VOB issues, however I have ran into this, albeit very rarely, on both Blu-ray as well, regarding m2ts streams...?
-------------------------------------------------

In the above DVD case, the resultant "test.mkv" would not play on my BD/DVD player, nor would it play in VLC.
(However, it did play via "mplayer" -go figure eh? :)

Anyway, by merging the VOB files using MKVToolNix, and in my case, enabling "fix bitstream timing info" I was able to successfully create an mkv that now works fine on all my media players.

Note: obviously mileage will vary depending on how corrupt/damaged your Vob/DVD/... media files are.

Hope this may help.
