I tried to convert my copy of Blue Pacific (BBC) but the sw came back and told me there was "no disk inserted" in my computer. Not a good sign. Hap.

Generally speaking, if MakeMKV says "No disk", it is because the operating system thinks there is no disk in the drive. There have been cases reported here where the ORDER of disk insertion and starting MakeMKV affects things, that is, if the disk is inserted before MakeMKV is started, or vice versa. Only experimentation will tell if this is the case.
However, if a disk is damaged so that the operating system cannot tell what it is, it will make the disk invisible to any programs. You can try cleaning it.

I have a dual layer DVD of Les Miserables with Gerard Depardieu. It was consistently saying No disk inserted on my external USB COOLEAD BD-ROM MATSHITA BD-CMB UJ-120 1.03 although it was fine on the internal drive in my laptop. I put it in an internal drive on this machine and it worked, and it is now working on the COOLEAD drive. Maybe it was a speck of dust.
