"The Hunger Games Catching Fire" dummy files? almost breaks?

Post by barmst »

At first, when MakeMKV was doing the initial scan of this disc, it jerked the player around sounding like something was stuck about halfway through. it said protection was too tough, and was trimming instead. I freaked out and hit eject thinking my Drive was broken. I ripped another DVD and it worked fine, so I tried "HG Catching Fire" again... same place, it started jerking again, but I let it do it this time. About a minute later, it finally got to the results screen. There were 6 selections for the main movie (like there were 6 different movies on this disc), all checkmarked, with slightly different sizes and chapter counts, but the other details were the same (languages, subtitles, aspect ratio, etc...) considering this DVD can only hold probably 7 or 8GB of data, I doubt there are 6 x 6GB movie files on here... I am currently ripping all of them to see which one (if any) are real...

The dummy files are annoying and time consuming, but this thing wrenching my DVDrom drive like that can't be good, what is going on?

Sometime around the "trying CellTrim algorithm" part was when I had to sit here while my DVDrom was grinding and jerking (who cares about a $20 Disc Drive when we have experiments to run, right?)... after about a minute of that noise, it continued seemingly normal...

At this point, my DVDrom started to sound like it was jerking and grinding again, so I halted the operation. It appears that "t05" is the legit copy, as the other 4 I looked at (t06 - t09) had a misplaced scene at the start... I will find out when I get around to watching the whole thing, but everything seemed to be in order as i skipped around watching scenes. "t10" seemed to be the one with all of the issues with messing up my DVDrom... I hope it didn't do any permanent damage to it. :|

I'm having the same problem. Did you figure it out? T5 is way too short to be the movie.
