And you're getting now error messages prior to the failure message?
Turn on debugging and re-run the rip. Instructions in my signature. There are a lot of messages that won't display unless you have debugging turned on.
Chances are, the problem is a dirty or scratched disk; DVD players will ignore unreadable sectors if there aren't too many of them in a row, but MakeMKV won't, since it's trying to create an accurate rip.
