Illegal Request trying to Rip Van Der Valk DVD series

I am trying to Rip my Van Der Valk DVD's to put on my NAS box box but I get about 1/3 of the way through then I get the message below. Does anyone know why this should happen.


Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE - KEY NOT PRESENT' occurred while issuing SCSI command A40..03AB00..00CC4 to device 'SPTI:\Device\CdRom0'

The operating system got back an error from the hardware, and reported it to MakeMKV.

Were these DVDs or Bluray Disks? What version of MakeMKV are you running?

When I went to rip a disk today with 1.8.1, I got the same error, after 1.8.1 said my drive (in use for two years with MakeMKV) had RPC protection that couldn't be bypassed.

Reverted to version 1.8.0, and the problem disappeared.

This after using the same drive and 1.8.1 for nearly a dozen disks last week, without the RPC error.

You've got this in the middle of conversion to MKV??? Or during disc open phase?

You've got this in the middle of conversion to MKV??? Or during disc open phase?

It was a DVD and during the disc open phase
