Like many others, I am having a sync problem between the audio and video on several movies, Outbreak being the latest one. Here's the DVD info:

I've tried it with and without subtitles. I'm not very tech savy, so be gentle! I've tried to fix it with MKVToolNix, but it didn't work either.

The problem is compounded if I pause the play or fast-forward through the movie. Is that CSS/CPPM protection causing the problem? If so, how do I get around it?

Are you ripping the movie and then playing it? If so, what software are you using to play the rip?

I am saving the ripped file to an 8-terrabyte WD Easystore external hard drive, which I then play through an AGPtek Mini 1080 HD Media Player to the HDMI port on the television because the dip-stick Vizio television manufacturer only supports FAT/FAT32 USB drives, not NTFS, even though NO ONE uses the FAT format any more (unless they are using a teeny tiny thumb drive, which will not hold a single movie)!!!

From the HD Mini Player manual:

1. USB storage: built-in internal flash allows USB 2.0 storage. Only 10 MB of capacity, it can easily connect to any USB HOST port, no external power needed. Compatible with Windows and MAC OS.

2. USB HOST: Can drive external USB storage devices such as a USB hard drive or USB stick, and read or manage files on them.

3. SD / SDHC player: directly read the SD / SDHC card, and play or manage the files on the TV, can read the SD / SDHC card also on the computer.

It does support playing the MKV files that are created as part of the MakeMKV rip process, but it doesn't mention what is uses to play the files. See

Now, I originally thought that the HD Media player interface may be the trouble, but I have a mixture of 800 DVD/Blu-Ray rips that play just fine, so something else must be the problem.

I'm not sure what software actually plays the ripped movies. I didn't have to install anything on the television, and nothing on the hard drive. I'm assuming that the HD Media Player has software built in - probably something like VLC, which is what I had downloaded and installed on my last television before it shot craps.

In the product reviews, someone mentioned syncing problems after the first 35 minutes or so into a movie - which is about where I am having trouble. However, there are too many other files that play just fine!

What happens if you play the problematic .mkv files with VLC on your computer?

Generally speaking, all MakeMKV does is copy the bits that are on a disc into a .mkv file. It doesn't modify the data. Almost always when a file won't play properly it is some limitation of of the player software.

Are the files that don't work larger than 4GB?
