Cannot read the second layer of DL DVD

Hello, I'm a new member. I have a DVD boxset in which the second layer of all four discs cannot be read. It's a rather old boxset, so I'm guessing that age and/or storage conditions prior to my friend's purchase (recently) are to blame for the second layers being unreadable. The other boxsets in this series were successfully ripped.
I initially suspected it was my Blu-ray drive, but I tested a regular DVD player and a PS4, and neither could read the episodes on the second layer.
Is there anything I can do to make the disc readable enough to extract the contents? The surface is devoid of scratches, and the label appears to be undamaged.
