Very difficult disc

Hi,
I've started to back up my fairly large collection to hard drives. Making .iso files using makemkv. so far so good except this one title I have. It's the a three disc box set and strangely enough the first disc went very well and the disc image is fine and boots using vlc. the other two though, even though I have managed to get makemkv to 'back up' the discs, they do not boot up at all using vlc. the way it looks in vlc. it has these symbols around it, like this: <dvd title here>. these arrows, you see. it seems to exist as a file with the correct size, and if I go into the disc image and into the video ts folder the various fob files can be accessed but they are all sorts of strange sizes and lengths, eleven hours for example. anyway, any ideas? I have tried loading the disc first in vlc then pausing and starting makemkv from there. like I say, it can finish the job but the resulting file wont open in vlc even though it appears to be the correct size and include the files.
