Mystery DVD won't rip but will play in DVD player

Post by JustSomeGuy »

I have a DVD I purchased before 2015, maybe 2010. MKV tries for a bit, then fails, and says 'no disc'. I tried playing it and the apple DVD Player also says 'no disc' so I assumed it was a bad dvd.

However, I can play it in my DVD player. It seems to play fine, with no skipping or freezes. Anyone have any suggestions on how to get it to rip?

Here is the output from MakeMKV when I try:

Update - I swapped out the drive for an apple Super Drive and was able to play the DVD on my computer and MakeMKV had no problem reading the disc and is currently ripping.

Previous drive was a Buffalo BD and it has ripped over a 100 DVDs without issue.

Do this long enough and you'll end up with a fleet of optical drives. The same disc in a different optical drive will often times yield different results. :)

Heh, I can see that. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some setting I could try. I have learned so much about using MakeMKV from everyone here.
