DVD not copying

Post by L4UoA »

I just purchased "Fantastic Beasts The Secrets of Dumbledore" and while the computer recognizes the disk, MakeMKV recognizes the disk but hangs during opening the disk. Just downloaded the new version 1.17.0

"Hangs during opening" is suspicious. Is it hanging while loading the disk, or after you loaded it and started extracting? They mean different things.

First... Woodstock, the FAQ in your signature comes back Server 500 error. But I think I figured out the Advanced logging.

Second. I'm having the same problem as L4UoA. Same DVD, Fantastic Beasts The Secrets of Dumbledore

Program just hangs while "Opening Disc"

Says Title id: #37
Current cell: 1:1/1
Current VOBU: 0

The elapsed time just keeps counting up, as well as the remaining time.

Logfile is really short, doesn't seem to be helpful:

Hello ....... although a registered user of MakeMKV since 2016, I have never really had many issues that I couldnt find an answer to, but I am having this one as well. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore either has a new encryption method or something is causing MakeMKV to hang during loading. I let it run for nearly 30 minutes and never advanced any further and the estimated completion timer just continued to get higher and higher with no progress.

MakeMKV 1.17.0 has a new way it processes DVDs: DVD opening modes - CellWalk, CellTrim, CellFull

What happens if you configure MakeMKV to use a different opening mode for this DVD? I think the CellTrim mode would be what MakeMKV was doing in version 1.16.7.

Hello!

I had the same issue with same DVD with same version of MKV.
After reading this post, I change my preference to CellTrim
and I was able to process the DVD.

I did some check on the final export and everything seems OK.

Hope that help :)

I did the same as others, changed to CellTrim and it seems to have created a good backup. However, don't understand why MakeMKV would not recognize all of this without intervention.

Changing setting to CellTrim resolved the issue for me as well.

I love this community. Was about to wait forever for this disc to open when I decided to check. Changed to CellTrim and it opened almost immediately!

This is a bug in 1.17.0 . The program should never "hang" in scan phase.
Anyone who has this disc, please PM or write to support@makemkv.com - I'd like to get some specific log file.
Thanks!

I'm having the same issue with Fantastic Beasts as others posting, and thanks for figuring out the change to Celltrim!. The other issue that I was going to bring up is that I can't stop the action from the cancel (stop hand toggle box). The prompt box does come up to verify if I want to cancel though doesn't matter if I select yes or no it doesn't do anything. Only way to stop it is to close of application.

Just registered to post this....

I have a BluRay copy and changing the DVD protection preference did not help me...Is there another method I can try to change something up in order to get it to read?

You're having an issue with the BLURAY routine and the DVD routine didn't help? Sounds suspiciously logical to me...

Note that most drives use different lasers for DVD vs. Bluray, and there are other hardware differences.
