Can the file sizes be compressed in MakeMKV?

i'm archiving my DVD collection but the average DVD is creating an .mkv file of 5Gb
is it possible to reduce the output size in makemkv?
i don't see any settings for it

if not what would be the best way to compress them

No. MakeMKV is not a video transcoder.

Handbrake can do it, as well as several other tools.
