Consistent failure to rip certain episodes

Have just discovered terrific MakeMKV as I rip documentaries to add to my "autobiography" for our children (on a 2TB hard drive).
After ripping a dozen DVDs without problem, "Terry Jones' Medieval Lives" disc 2 consistently failed to rip, two of the five episodes not working. All of disc 1, in contrast, no problem whatever.
By not work, I mean that the two episodes show up in File Explorer but don't play with VLC; the window stays black. I note the Name, Date, Type and Size columns all have entries, but the Length tab does not. On other ripped files, the Length column is populated.
I'm attaching the log but have no expectations anyone else has the time or interest to troubleshoot this.
I tried Handbrake, by the way. It resulted in ONE huge file containing all the episodes, and that file stuttered as it played. I've removed Handbrake. MakeMKV is a pleasure to use in contrast.
The disc has light scratches, plays perfectly in a DVD player or on the computer with VLC. I washed the disc, but no help.
Any suggestions for a free DVD ripper if MakeMKV never works on this disc?
