I am trying to rip Walt Disney's Pinocchio 70th Anniversary Edition DVD using MakeMKV 1.10.2. The disc is perfectly clean. To be honest I took it brand new out of the plastic. The errors I get are below. I have been gleefully ripping other movies and other Disney movies for months. Will this get fixed?

"the disk is perfectly clean"

When you look at the disk holder, do you see what looks like suction cup marks on it? (may have to hold it at an angle to the light to see them) If so, the holder has some residue from the packaging process on it, and that can migrate to the disks in shipping.

Personally, I've had a LOT of "perfectly clean" disks that needed to be cleaned this past year. Almost all of them were in packaging that had suction cup marks on the holders, and a hazy look to them at certain angles. Many worked without errors, or errors that corrected themselves after some retries, but I've been cleaning more "perfectly clean" disks than ones the family scratched up. Of course, I don't let them TOUCH the actual disks anymore (media servers are wonderful!), but that's beside the point.

Spinning optical media read by a laser is better than spinning plastic media read by running a needle over a groove cut in it, but not by much.

That's why the standard advice around here is to clean the disk with a damp, soft cloth (cotton or microfiber preferred) when you see "uncorrectable read" errors.

That's for the reply. But, when I say perfectly clean I mean that I used optical disc cleaner and a microfiber cloth to clean it multiple times to the same result. Also, if it helps the movie was in the plastic prior to trying to rip it .

Combined with the errors you have posted for other rips, including a crash, I would be looking at something drive-related. I ripped Pinocchio about 6 months ago - it doesn't include any odd-ball encryption, and follows standard Disney title numbering.
