I have encountered a fatal error on a couple of DVDs - unforgiven and the empire strikes back. The behavior is the same whether on different machines, different DVD drives. Program is getting through the table of contents on the disk, gets to Title #8 and then it goes away. Program ends with Fatal error occurred, program will now exit. Happens in version 1.9.7 as well. I have a screen shot if your interested.

Without a screen shot, the logs from the rip (debug logging FAQ link in my signature), and hopefully system log information from the fatal error (Event Viewer in Windows, you didn't say what operating system), there isn't a lot that can be offered except sympathy.
