Windows 10 Build 10130 DVD Region Error

Post by Wintaru » Thu Jun 04, 2015 7:51 pm

Paste of the log is here: http://pastebin.com/CzwEKe8q

I checked, my DVD Region hasn't changed on the drive. I haven't tried flashing the region free firmware yet, wanted to see if there was any other way to fix this.

Yours is not the first report of W10 beta builds breaking MakeMKV. Starting with 10122, Microsoft changed SOMETHING that is preventing MakeMKV from properly communicating with the drive.

In case it simply a permissions issue, do you run MakeMKV as a regular user, or with administrator privileges?

Glad I'm not alone! I run MakeMKV with the elevated administrator privileges and have not been able to successfully rip a DVD or bluray disc since the mentioned build of Windows 10.

Ditto on the above. Running as admin interestingly fixed it for a few discs but not the majority of others.

Build 10162 has BluRay's working again if I run MakeMKV as an Administrator, will test DVD's here in a bit.

Edit: DVD's still broken :(

Having the same issue and it's still completely broken for me on build 10162. Interesting is that it fails in different ways each time, seemingly... What would be helpful for determining if it's a bug with the OS or the software? I can get screen grabs in addition to logs, if that would add anything. (Seems like it wouldn't) Any more news about this today? Any way I can help test? Since the problem now no longer relates to just 10131, should we start a new thread with a more relevant title? It also doesn't seem to be a region issue for me, it just plain can't access discs.

System: (in case it's helpful)
Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H
AMD Phenom 9750
8GB DDR3 1333 (Can't recall exact type, not sure it matters here. Let me know if it does.)
Plextor PX-128M3 SSD
Western Digital Green 1TB HDD
Samsung SH-B123L BD-ROM
EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB

Followed a suggestion from another thread and upped the number of retries in Preferences > IO from the default 5 to 10 and am seeing about a 25% success rate on opening BD's, now. *shrug* Better than nothing. Give it a try and let others know if it seems to help you too.

EDIT: Though, it looks my rip times just went from around 20-30min to around 7-8hrs.... =\ I'll update again with more details after/if it finishes.

EDIT2: The video seems to rip normally after it opens successfully. There is a tiny spot of video corruption at the very beginning of my MKV (ripping Jupiter Ascending) but otherwise it seems good after some jumping around in the video. The long rip time from last night was just me leaving a few boxes checked in my haste that I didn't need or want. back to 30-ish minute rips and 25-33% success on opening that disc. Hope this helps. Please update with your experience if you try this so others can have some confidence (or not, as the case may be) in the work around. Happy 4th!

Hello,

I had the same problem, it was coming from my antivirus (bitdefender).
After changing some settings everything is working well and fast.

The problems were occuring with windows 7 (makemkv 1.9.5 was freezing) and windows 10 (1.9.4 and 1.9.5 had different issues).

Hope this can help...

Sorry for my english...
