Error ripping disk

Post by scryer10 » Sun May 17, 2015 1:53 am

I can open the disk just fine. But once I start to try and transfer the disk to my hard drive, it goes about half way and I receive the error:

Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:UNRECOVERED READ ERROR' occurred while reading '/VIDEO_TS/VTS_07_1.VOB' at offset '3292876800'

This is the first time it has happened to me and I have ripped quite a few DVDs, but it has now happened to two disks in a row.

These are errors issued by the drive itself, in that it can't read part of the disk. Even a simple finger print can cause this, so the first step is cleaning the disk.

My preference is Pledge (or similar) furniture polish and a soft cotton or microfiber cloth. It's a water-based wax that cleans a lot of stuf off, and the wax fills in minor scratches.

If EVERY disk you put in the drive now does this, though, you might have something in the drive that blocks the laser at certain points. That's rather rare, though.
