Error writing MKV file.

Hi,

I trying to convert Stephen Kings IT DVD1 from IFO files on my harddisk to an mkv file. At nearly the end of the conversion process the programs says that the mkv file could not be written (Copy completed. 0 titles saved, 1 failed). Below you will find debug log output from the conversion progress.

The DVD itself plays without error when played with Windows Media Player or Media Player Classic Home Cinema.

I will try the linux version to see if the same errors popup.

Why not from the original DVD? Ripping from an ISO adds a layer of unknown, because whatever created the ISO could have damaged the file.

I have the original movie also in VIDEO_TS format. I created ISO files with PowerISO. Converting the movie from both sources has led to the same error mentioned in my first post. Why converting? I work with XBMC 12.0 (frodo) on a Minix Neo X7 android device. The movie consists of two parts. XBMC cannot stack ISO files. Thats why I have to convert it to MKV. All my movies are in MKV container format and are stored on a Synology NAS. XBMC reads my movies from this NAS using a CIFS connection. I found out that MKV is the best format to work with XBMC and multilingual subtitles. We speak french, dutch and English at our home.

Hello there, is anybody still having an eye on that issue?

I have exactly the same problem with side A of that DVD.

I have tried the following ways to create an mkv file of that DVD:
1) run makemkv for the physical DVD with AnyDVD deactivated
2) run makemkv for the physical DVD with AnyDVD activated
3) run makemkv for the ripped iso-file (created with AnyDVD)
4) run makemkv for the ripped DVD files in a folder on my drive, i.e. the file VIDEO_TS.IFO in the (ripped) folder VIDEO_TS

In all 4 cases makemkv brings the already described error message ("Copy completed. 0 titles saved, 1 failed"). I guess I don't have to describe that error again.
There's also another thread here about that issue (from August 2011), see: http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3961, which has not been solved.

Side B of that DVD (yes, it's a flip-disc) can be processed successfully with makemkv without any problems.

I have tried Free DVD Video Converter (http://www.dvdvideosoft.com) to create an mkv of side A of that DVD, just to see if it's a general issue wit that DVD.
But apart from the fact that this software is painfully slow, it at least created an mkv file... unfortunately I can only play it on my PC (e.g. with VLC), but not on my TV.

So I still would like to have makemkv (as my by far most favourite mkv-maker!) creating an mkv file successfully from that DVD (http://www.amazon.de/dp/B00008AOML).

Any chance to have that issue analysed?

The "code 449" error means an incorrectly mastered disc. A workaround can be easily added, but you need to supply the full log file, as written by MakeMKV. It should be couple of megabytes in size and should contain all necessary information for the workaround.

Hmmm... I followed the FAQ on http://www.makemkv.com/faq/item/8/catid/6, but although I activated the option ""Log debug messages" in MakeMKV preferences and restarted the program, I did not receive any message where the debug log would be stored.

Seems like I only receive the (short) debug log in MakeMKVs screen interface, because even when I searched for "MakeMKV_log.txt" on my drives, I could not find anything.

If "C:\Users\[my user-profile name]\MakeMKV_log.txt" is the standard location, it's definitely not there; it's also neither in my (custom-located) Temp or Undo folder, nor in MakeMKV's installation folder, so where could it still be?

Do you also need the compressed IFO files as mentioned in the above FAQ, or is the MakeMKV_log.txt (if you could help me how to create/find it) enough?
