Medium error

Post by localmotion » Sat Jul 06, 2013 1:58 am

I am trying to RIP a DVD so I can have it on my hard drive and I am coming up with these errors. Any suggestions? I can view the DVD on my computer no problem so I dont think its dirty.

Thanks in Advance!

Replacing the disc is the solution. I recently had to exchange 3 copies of Monster's Inc before I finally had one that would rip correctly. All of them would play fine in our Oppo blu ray player.

Prior to Rita's suggestion, try cleaning the disk. The number of unreadable sectors usually points to a scratch or dirty spot that the laser can't read properly.

Small scratches can be filled temporarily by waxing the disk after you clean it; I use Pledge furniture polish (pump spray) to do both, and, if that doesn't work, the disk probably needs to be polished to get the scratches out.

Woodstock

How often do you run into this with "new" discs?

With new disks, only once... The carrier got dropped in the mail, and the disk rattled around for the last few stops in the mail truck. The scratches were minor enough that wax worked just fine, but they WERE visible.

Disks back from friends borrowing them.... Well, a lot. So much so that I'm not anxious to lend them out anymore. Especially to those who have kids!
