DVD Playback Error, Interlace?

Hi,
I have a problem when I playback an MKV make of an old DVD.
After some Googeling I found out it could be an interlace problem (picture attached).

I tried using VLC with activated de-interlacing and the picture got smoother, but I still have the problem when I try to play it on my TV (as there aren't much configuration settings like on the PC).

Is there a way to solve the problem?

If you have the time, you can re-encode the MKV file with Handbrake and make sure the decomb filter is on. The resulting file will be deinterlaced.

Thank you very much, in this case I have to re-encode the MKV anyway, cause I want to play it on my iPad.
But what exactly is the decomb filter?

And is there another way to deinterlace without re-encoding, just for the future

MakeMKV does not alter the video stream. If the source DVD is interlaced then the resulting file will be. Either use playback software that deinterlaces, or re-encode the video yourself.

The Decomb filter is an adaptive filter that combines the interlaced images to almost make a nice progressive image. Because it's adaptive, it will look at the images to see if there is interlacing, and only work when it detects interlacing. This is as opposed to the Deinterlacing filter which will bulldoze it's way through the file cutting every other line, to make a progressive image. The Handbrake wiki has an excellent example of how Decomb and Deinterlace work and what they do.
