Grave of the Fireflies fails to rip

Post by cp.3k » Fri Nov 30, 2012 2:29 pm

I get the message when ripping fails:

Saving 1 titles into directory /Users/ckruse/Movies/Grave_of_the_Fireflies
LIBMKV_TRACE: Exception: MKV_ASSERT: TimecodeDelay >= int16(0x8000) && TimecodeDelay <= int16(0x7FFF)
Failed to save title 0 to file /Users/ckruse/Movies/Grave_of_the_Fireflies/title00.mkv
0 titles saved, 1 failed

I don't get the error if I disable audio and subtitles. Anyone else get this?

Do you have to disable ALL audio and subtitles, or just one?

I had this problem a few weeks back with a disk, and the problem was with a commentary audio track. Disabling that single track allowed the file to rip.

(Since it wasn't a track I cared about, I didn't bother submitting the logs and such to Mike.)

I tried to rip my old Central Park Media disc and ran into a failure too. Here's the details:
MakeMKV v1.14.2 win(x64-release) started
Using direct disc access mode
Complex multiplex encountered - 13 cells and 12384 VOBUs have to be scanned. This may take some time, please be patient - it can't be avoided.
Title #1 was added (13 cell(s), 1:29:56)
Complex multiplex encountered - 14 cells and 12385 VOBUs have to be scanned. This may take some time, please be patient - it can't be avoided.
Angle #2 was added for title #1
CellWalk algorithm failed (structure protection is too tough?), trying CellTrim algorithm
Title #2 was added (1 cell(s), 0:00:13)
Title #2/0/1 was added (1 cell(s), 0:00:58)
Title #2/1 was added (1 cell(s), 0:00:19)
Title #2/2 was added (1 cell(s), 0:01:11)
Title #2/3 was added (1 cell(s), 0:01:16)
Title #2/4 was added (1 cell(s), 0:00:12)
Title #2/5 was added (1 cell(s), 0:01:03)
Title #2/6 was added (1 cell(s), 0:01:02)
Title #2/7 was added (1 cell(s), 0:00:15)
Cells 3-end were skipped due to cell commands (structure protection?)
Title #3 was added (1 cell(s), 0:00:12)
Cells 1-1 were removed from title start
Cells 3-3 were removed from title end
Title #4 was added (1 cell(s), 0:00:12)
Operation successfully completed

Make sure you have debug logging turned on, which will provide more detail on WHY it couldn't read the disk.

Grave of the Fireflies is rippable, because I've done it.

There might be something going on - it's taking a long time to rip discs now. Last night the Last Horror Movie from 88 Films plateaued out at something 39 hours before I aborted the process. Just now I tried to rip the DVD of Up In Smoke and it just chugged and chugged and chugged before it even gave me the option to start the rip.

I might uninstall and reinstall. See if that cures my ills.

When was the last time you RESET your computer? Not just rebooted, forced it to reset its hardware, by either powering off or (if you have one) pressing the RESET button.

It's entirely possible the drive/motherboard interface is where the issue is, and it won't reset on a reboot. USB external drives can usually be reset by unplugging and replugging, by the nature of USB.
