Error while making MKV from DVD Folders
Error while making MKV from DVD Folders
I've been going through my star trek DVD collection rips and converting each episode to separate MKV files. I have the discs saved to my server in VIDEO_TS folder structure.
I've been trucking along through tons of discs, but ran across an error trying to do disc 3 of the DS9 series.
Simply fails to create the MKV, spitting out "Error while reading input"
Here is the log:
MakeMKV v1.7.8 win(x64-release) started
Debug logging enabled, log will be saved as C:\Users\Cirdecus/MakeMKV_log.txt
The new version 1.7.9 is available for download at http://www.makemkv.com/download

Any ideas? I can test that the DVD folders play through WMC when i get home. I don't remember any of them not playing.

Hi!
Try cleaning the disc and then process again with MakeMKV...

Your file is corrupt. To tell more, please send the full log file C:\Users\Cirdecus/MakeMKV_log.txt to support@makemkv.com as it has all the necessary details.
Re: Error while making MKV from DVD Folders
I thought that perhaps the file could be corrupt, but WMC plays all episodes from the disc in VIDEO_TS folders just fine. I can also user Ripbot to pull the episodes and convert to MKV and it seems to work, although I prefer not to use that program.
I'll email you the log file now

Despite what you've said about other programs reading/playing the disc properly, I'd once again suggest that you try cleaning the disc and then again try processing with MakeMKV...
Re: Error while making MKV from DVD Folders
It isn't a disc. Is is a VIDEO_TS folder on my server. There is nothing to cleansetarip_old wrote: Despite what you've said about other programs reading/playing the disc properly, I'd once again suggest that you try cleaning the disc and then again try processing with MakeMKV...
Re: Error while making MKV from DVD Folders
I've since tested Handbrake and it also reads the VIDEO_TS folders just fine. I used default NORMAL and QUALITY MKV settings and both work just fine.
So its just MakeMKV that is having trouble reading HALF of the Star Trek DS9 disk set that I have.

There have been postings at other forums indicating similar problems.
I'd suggest you return the problematic disc(s) in exchange for new replacements...

Re: Error while making MKV from DVD Folders
Your VOB file has sectors with garbage, that's a fact. Whether these sectors exist on original DVD, an if yes, whether they contain any critical information is an open question. The policy of MakeMKV is stop on garbage data (as opposed to silently ignoring and hoping for the best). Please do send the full log - it will clear the things up. If it is the bug in MakeMKV, you log file is crucial for fixing it.
Re: Error while making MKV from DVD Folders
I've been ripping a lot of Dark Shadows and I've run into quite a few that appear to do the same thing as your reporting. Cleaning doesn't help. Handbrake rips the discs without a problem. DVDDecrypt doesn't have problems with the discs either.
I've since completed ripping those for my friend and I won't volunteer to create backups for friends any longer.
ps. The discs that gave me problems all were formatted so that only one vob contained all the episodes. The ones that contained multiple vobs ripped fine.
