i ran into a Read error (DVD media) while trying to read a dvd that was a bit messy and banged up. in my pioneer BLUERAY device, it was failing to read even with all the fancy new error handling...
tried washing and buffing the disk...
...finally decided to try an older DVD drive, and got lucky and it worked.
sometimes trying an alternate drive works.
