"Title was skipped due to navigation error"

Post by busthead » Mon May 09, 2022 6:38 pm

'The Basic Math Word Problem Tutor' disc 1 Title #3 was skipped due to navigation error.

Same error occurred when using an iso created by ImgBurn of the same disc.

Please advise.

I don't have that disc, so I haven't experienced your exact problem, but MakeMKV has something called Manual DVD Mode that might help in this situation.

Manual DVD Mode will definitely help

Manual DVD Mode did not help.

Opening a similar DVD from the same company in manual mode resulted in the same error:

Code: Select all

Open DVD manually : "6"
Complex multiplex encountered - 1 cells and 2976 VOBUs have to be scanned. This may take some time, please be patient - it can't be avoided.
Title #6 (0:24:49) was skipped due to navigation error
Failed to open disc
Given that I've had this error on two separate DVDs from the same content producer (and from no other DVD ever), I'm guessing this is an authoring or manufacturing issue.

Assuming there's nothing else I can try on my side, is there a way to submit an ISO to the MakeMKV developers so they can debug?

Maybe try ripping the disc undecrypted onto the hard disk first. DVDshrink or DVD Decrypter could help there. The latter one also can remove some more protection features than DVDShrink.

I don't think MakeMKV supports making a backup of a DVD the way it does for Blu-rays.

Why not? Opening files and selecting the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in the VIDEO_TS folder lets open MakeMKV such a backup without a problem.

I'm not sure I completely understand. Are you saying to:
  • Launch MakeMKV
  • Put a DVD in the drive
  • Wait for MakeMKV to read the disc
  • Select Open Files from the menu
  • Navigate to the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in the VIDEO_TS folder on the DVD
  • Answer 'No' to the following message:
    dvd.jpg
    dvd.jpg (32.83 KiB) Viewed 11529 times
  • Wait for MakeMKV to process (mine still has more than an hour to go)
  • Then make a backup somehow?
Or are you suggesting using a different program to make a backup of a DVD?

No, I meant to do that when you made a decrypted backup with another software, which eventually would have removed some kind of protection MakeMKV doesn't seem to get through. I'm not sure if DVDfab Passkey is still free to use for DVDs (I think for BluRays you have to buy it after 30 days). It also removes many kinds of protections.

Finally circling back to this. AnyDVD was able to successfully rip the DVD to hard disk which MakeMKV was then able to read.

So @Ezatoka was correct. The solution was to rip with a different DVD decrypter first.

Thanks!
