Am finally getting around to making a backup to PC of my Star Trek DS9 tv series. Upon ripping Season 1, I am seeing very slow ripping.
So far I am trying these in an ASUS 24B1ST. 1.0c drive.
What is happening is it looks like it pauses for very long periods of time. There are no unusual sounds such as the drive having trouble reading the disc nor are there any errors on the screen whatsoever. Then there is a surge of data and then a pause again.
These are the original seasons, not reissues so they're from years ago. The discs themselves look pristine and when I search for disc rot on these specific titles I come up empty.
I'm willing to accept that the discs may be degrading and thus slowing down the process - or could these disc have intentional mastering errors, despite the age of them?
[Edit] - Am seeing the same issue with a Pioneer BD208 as well.

Are you saving to a network share?
I ask because I've seen this behavior when the network is busy. I constantly have the network traffic monitor up in Task Manager, so it's easy to see when things "get busy" and network throughput drops.
