Chima never finishes opening

Post by Tinface » Wed Mar 15, 2017 4:10 pm

https://1drv.ms/i/s!AjQ85IqLtM49rZogDvSWQKxBt0IEPA

As per image, current running time > 1h. No visible progress but my i7 CPU usage has been going at 30% for the duration. Two makemkvcon64 processes using a core each. Tried starting over but it gets stuck at the same point.

How to make makemkv finish opening the DVD?

The plot thickens. Simultaneously, all the blu-rays I attempt to rip fails on load as well. This happens after getting the "operation successfully completed" message in the log. I get a popup saying "fatal error occurred, program will now exit". Fortunately no deaths seem to happen.

I have ripped hundreds of movies, almost all blu-rays but also a few dvds up till now, when everything suddenly stops working.

Could other installed programs prevent MakeMKV from functioning? Did my drive die? If so, how can it get that far into the loading process before failing?

Changing which USB port I connect the drive to, I got the blu-rays to open properly. While blu-rays rip correctly, the issue with the DVD persists.

It's much easier if you provide information by pasting the text in to your message, rather than linking to screen shots. It also gets around the need for a moderator to approve your post because of the links.

Follow the link in my signature to enable debug logging; your log will then contain more information than is being displayed now, and it will be saved to a file on your system. You should also look in the Windows Event Viewer and see if there are any warnings or errors generated at the time you are trying to rip disks.

Changing the USB port usually causes the operating system to consider the drive to be a completely different device, so it is likely some settings are wacky in Windows. Are you running MakeMKV as an administrator, or a non-administrator account?

Thanks for the heads up. Will do.

I looked it up but found no warnings or errors while experiencing the MakeMKV crash.

Since you asked, I tried running MakeMKV as admin. No difference in behavior.

I started getting the MakeMKV crash when loading a BD again. Following your suggestion I went to enable debug logging. Without loading a disc, as a result of clicking the menu View->Preferences, MakeMKV crashed again. An instance of makemkvcon64.exe was still running after MakeMKV shut down. Thinking my install was corrupted i uninstalled and reinstalled MakeMKV to a different drive. After reinstall, MakeMKV still crashes just from opening the preferences window. Even without the BD drive connected. Could MakeMKV be storing some settings elsewhere but the installation directory? If my PC is imploding it currently seems very specific to MakeMKV. I have had no issues whatsoever with any other software. Gaming, browsing, streaming, working, all good. Not a single BSOD in years.

I'm stumped.

Pick up one of the older versions from here: /download/old/

Install it, making sure there are NO makemkv*.exe tasks running, letting it remove the existing version. If anything is still running, it will prevent proper installation.

Does it still crash?

1.9.9 started fine and I could open the preferences without crashing. Jumping to 1.10.3 reintroduced crashing (fatal error occurred...). 1.10.1 no crash. 1.10.2 crashes. Will continue with 1.10.1 for now. If I can assist further in locating the error please let me know.

Thanks for the help Woodstock.

I recommend sending a message to support@makemkv.com and alert Mike to this topic. He may ask you to send the same information asked for in the FAQ link in my signature, with the debug log from both from version 1.9.9 and 1.10.1 scanning the disk.

1.10.5 opens preferences without crashing and loading the DVD finishes correctly. I get

Code: Select all

Title #33 has length of 195 seconds which is less than minimum title length of 250 seconds and was therefore skipped
DEBUG: Code 2185 at r]=Mk;I$b$1E&t>l}Ds#.:121265085
DEBUG: Code 2185 at r]=Mk;I$b$1E&t>l}Ds#.:121265085
Operation successfully completed
in the log. Not sure if it's important but stuff seems to work.

Thank you for the update.
