How to copy menu graphics? No full disc backup?

Post by preserve » Fri Apr 29, 2016 4:23 pm

No full disc backup for DVDs? Just curious about the reason for this.

Is there a way to copy the menu graphics / backgrounds?

(I have my title length set to 0 seconds, but the menus don't show up in the list of titles to copy)

No DVD backup because there are quite a number of existing tools that will create DVD ISOs with decryption, which is really the only way to preserve the menus and all the other flotsam found on DVDs. Most players have support for DVD ISO playback, even if it isn't decrypted.

Thanks for the fast answer, Woodstock.

Love MakeMKV because it does everything and it's hassle-free, so I've been reluctant to need to go to any other program.

Anyone have a personal recommendation for best free DVD tool for full disc backup / acquiring the menu graphics?

A google search for "dvd to iso windows" will give you some leads. On Linux, I just used the always-there tool "dd" to create encrypted ISOs, because players could handle them.

Years ago, I tried one called "BDlot DVD ISO Master", which worked, but I do not keep it installed.

Some discs, such as the 1998 Godzilla will hide special features in the Menu, thus rendering them unrippable. I had posted that in a different thread.
I tried to rip the music video but it wasn't a title. When I actually play the music video on the disc it indicates I am played "Dvd Menu" and not say "Title 4"
