Re: Real Estate Training DVD
I must admit that since the DVD was brand new in the sleeve i didn't bother to check that it was clean. I will check that and get back to you. Is that the only indicator in the log file?
Thanks for the response.

Re: Real Estate Training DVD
ok we checked the disc and it was clean and i tried it on MakeMKV on another PC and it opened the disc fine. Put it back in the first PC and it failed again. Is it a driver problem or a hardware problem with the drive? Is there a DVD test or something i can run? The disc plays fine on the PC, just fails when i try to use MakeMKV...

Then it's either a hardware problem or a software setup/installation problem on the problematic PC (like, possibly, having to sign on as "administrator")...i tried it on MakeMKV on another PC and it opened the disc fine. Put it back in the first PC and it failed again.

Re: Real Estate Training DVD
Can you suggest any way to track down and identify whether it is a hardware or software problem? Is there a diagnostic utility that you know of that is reliable? Thanks

Re: Real Estate Training DVD
Flip the disc over. Is it shiny silver or gold? Or is it blue, green, or some other colour?
Many low budget dvds are released on -/+ media now. They may not have closed the disc properly, or just the session but not the disc. Or used a VR mode and not done the index transfer required for playback. Some drives can read these, some can’t.
Not sure the age of this but my first suggestions is to pick up a NAME BRAND dvd cleaning disc. Pay the few extra dollars for something from Sony or Tyo vs walmart or whatever brand.
Play the cleaner normally
Then eject it and blow off any hair, fur etc and pop it back in. Now load makemkv and rip the disc.
This two step process eliminates dirt, hair, etc as a problem source.
If the disc your trying still has issues now, try more dvds. If other dvds have issues you have a hardware problem. If other discs work fine you’ve got a DISC issues. Both blockbuster and low budget films have issues in discs, be it intentional mastering errors (BB—copy protection) or bad media errors (low budget).
If you can rip it on another computer just save it off that computer and transfer it. Each and every player is slightly different and has its own personality. If it doesn’t like the disc there’s not much you can do besides replace an otherwise working drive.

Re: Real Estate Training DVD
I don't think its a hardware problem but more than a new protection that makemkv didn't read.
